Visualization of GENESIS Atmospheric General Circulation Model

The following six animations show simulations for the month of January.

Jetstream and Clouds

MPEG (399 KB), QT (1016 KB)

Red isosurface of 40 meters/second winds. Height and topography exagerrated by a factor of 200. White clouds are mapped to the globe's surface.

Precipitation and Clouds

MPEG (304 KB), QT (867 KB)

Yellow and red areas show high precipitation. Clouds are faded in and out for correlation.

Surface Temperature

MPEG (171 KB), QT (1035 KB)

From the North pole to the South pole along meridian of 90 degrees west longitude, as in jetstream and precipitation animations. Temperature scale.

Clouds over Eastern Pacific

MPEG (306 KB), QT (708 KB)

The earth's rotation is frozen to view clouds for the entire month of January at three hour intervals. Winter stars move in response to camera motion northward.

Clouds over International Dateline

MPEG (374 KB), QT (755 KB)

The dateline is visible as a thin meridian line. Winter storms corss the North Pacific, as a strong equatorial intertropical convergence zone is seen.

15 Hour Time Average of Clouds

MPEG (31 KB), QT (100 KB)
