Poster Presentation Guidelines

NOTICE: POSTERS MUST BE PRE-MOUNTED TO POSTER BOARD (see size below)

Poster size: ECSS committee will provide tripods on which you will place your poster that has been affixed to a poster board NO GREATER THAN 48 inches by 48 inches. Your poster MUST be mounted on a poster board prior to the event. If you are unable to obtain poster board please contact Dan Ross (der180@psu.edu) for assistance.

Time: Posters may be set up between 2pm and 4pm on Friday, March 28th, 2008 in the Forest Resources Building lobby (see directions). We will provide you with detailed instructions to the location of your poster at a later stage. The posters have to be taken down after the award ceremony on Saturday, March 29th.

Audience: Posters should be prepared to reach an interdisciplinary scientific audience. You may assume the audience has basic scientific knowledge, but do not assume the audience is intimately familiar with your specific field or jargon commonly used in your field. Therefore, you should either avoid that jargon or define and explain acronyms, terms, and concepts.

Judging: Judges will be using judging sheets to evaluate your presentation. Please familiarize yourself with this sheet and design your presentation accordingly. The judging guidelines are available online.

General: Try to keep it simple!

Avoid overcrowding the poster with too much information. Use and include only information that serves to support and clarify your main message.

Avoid long sections of text (bulleted points are easier to read than long paragraphs). Keep graphs simple and make sure they are quick to understand.

The font of your text should be large enough to read from at least 5 feet away. We recommend that font size be 24 pt or larger.
