The Environmental Chemistry Student Symposium (ECSS) is a student organized and
run symposium
designed to foster interactions between undergraduate
and graduate scientists and engineers engaged in environmental research. Students
from multiple disciplines will present their research to the environmental community of Penn State
and regional educational institutions. The symposium is sponsored by the Center
for Environmental Chemistry and Geochemistry.
Thank you for your submissions! We look forward to seeing you March 28th and 29th.
The symposium will be held on March 28th and 29th in the Forest Resources Building and we are proud to feature Dr. Patrick Hatcher of Old Dominion University as this year's keynote speaker. Undergraduates and graduates are encouraged to submit abstracts for oral and poster sessions, which are given on a first come first serve basis. The DEADLINE to submit an abstract and enter the photo and/or t-shirt contest is FEBRUARY 29, 2008.
The symposium is organized by a graduate student committee with the help of our faculty mentor Dr. Karl Mueller and with the help of the Center for Environmental Chemistry and Geochemistry (CECG) executive committee.
Part of our funding comes from the Eberly College of Science and the College of Earth and Mineral Sciences through their contributions to the CECG. We additionally receive generous support from the Penn State Institutes of Energy and the Environment, the College of Agricultural Sciences, and the College of Engineering. We would like to thank the many departments and colleges across campus for making this year's symposium possible.
The ECSS committee includes volunteers from a variety of departments across campus including Crop and Soil Science, Geosciences, Biochemistry, Microbiology and Molecular Biology, Chemistry, Forest Resources, Environmental Engineering, and Meteorology. Students serving on the committee are:
Abstract Volume: Becky Sanders and Katya Bazilevskaya
Judging: Marshall McDaniels and Aubrey Lashaway
